Family of Four

This delivery experience was much different than when I had Finn. Of course, there was no mystery (except for Mia's gender), but there was also no NICU and we were out of the hospital by noon on Friday. That's right we checked in at 6am on Wednesday and were home by noon on Friday. I also felt much better - must have been that 21 hours of labor with Finn that wore me out.

HOME! Neither of the kids look too excited.
We had a few visitors when we were in the hospital. Of course, Grandma Kandy, Grandma Jan, and Grandpa Will were there the day Mia was born. We also got visits from Jill and Mya, Gay, and Beth and Nathan.

Wes took one full week off work and then worked half days for three weeks. Our first days at home were relaxing. Finn is such an outdoor kid that we spent a lot of time playing in the yard and visiting the local parks. Here we are loading the kids into our new double stroller for the first time.

Finn Meets Mia

Here Finn is waiting for mom and Mia to arrive. He had a great time playing with the adjustable bed in the meantime. Wes also spent this time teaching him to not push the nurse button.

First family picture. Finn was more interested in the ice than Mia.

It's a Girl!

Even though I am a super planner, I am really glad we waited to find out the gender of the baby. Dr. Helfer told Wes when to look over the sheet and he got to tell me that the new addition to our family was a beautiful, healthy baby girl! It was a beautiful moment that I will never forget. Emelia Marie Miller was born at 8:31am on Wednesday, September 22, 2010. She weighed in at 6lbs, 13oz and was 20 inches long.

Ready or Not

September 22 arrived much more quickly than we expected. After much debate, several conversations, and many mind changes, we finally decided that this baby was going to be arrive via scheduled c-section. It wasn't my first choice, but seemed to be the best choice for me and the baby. We knew this was a big possibility which is the main reason we decided not to find out the gender of the little one - we wanted something to be a surprise.

Kandy came over around 5:30am so that we could be at the hospital by 6:00. Here we are getting ready to leave.

I think I was more anxious with the planned c-section than I was with the unknown with Finn. It was more stressful to know exactly when everything was going to happen. We got to the hospital, checked in, and got all ready only to be told my doctor had to go to a meeting and would be a little late. So we watched Sportscenter and waited. It wasn't long before I was wheeled off to the delivery/operating room. Everything happened very quickly and was much more confortable than with Finn. I didn't really feel anything and was very aware of everything that was going on. It didn't take long before our family of three became a family of four.
